Make a
Basket Shelf

1. Open a new image 300x300. Set your forground color to black and your background color to a brown shade.



2. Click on your shapes tool. Choose a pentagon shape and check the vector box.



3. Draw a pentagon on the lower half of your image.



4. Click on your pen tool to edit the nodes. You should now see the nodes.



5. Grab the top middle node and drag it down until the top is a flat line. Layers/convert to raster layer. Layers/merge/merge visible.



6. Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture. Use these settings: pattern=woodgrain, size=100, smoothness=0, depth=20, ambience=0, shininess=0, angle=315, intensity=50, elevation=30, color=white.



7. Use your magic wand and click in the blank area of the image. Selection/selection invert. Selection/modify/contract. Contract by 20.



8. Your image should look like this:



9. Flood fill the selection with this color: #7C3E1C. Selections/modify/contract. Contract by 2.

10. Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture. Use the same settings as before.

11. With selection still selected, Effects/texture effects/weave. Use these settings: weave color #3D1F0F, gap color #7C3E1C.



12.Selections/Select None. Your image should look like this:



13. Let's add some pegs to hang things on. Use your shapes tool to draw a small vector circle at the bottom of the basket. Any color will do. Use your magic wand to select the circle. Control+C to copy. Edit/Paste/Paste as new selection. Place on the bottom of the basket. Do this twice more so you have four circles like this:



14. On your layer palette, make the layer invisible by clicking on the eye next to it.



15. Click on the top layer. Layers/merge/merge visible. Click on the eye with the X in it to make it visible again.



16. Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture. Use the same settings as before. It will look like the circles disappear.

17. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel. Use these settings.



18. Your image should look like this.



19. Let's add a handle to the basket shelf. Click on your preset shapes tool. Use these settings for a circle with width=8.



20. Draw a circle for the handle. Layer/convert to raster layer. It should look like this:



21. Use your eraser (NOT your background eraser) to erase the lower half of the circle.



22. Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture. Use the same settings as before. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel. Use the same settings as before.



23. Let's draw a shelf on the basket. Click on your shapes tool. Use the same settings as before, but use the rounded rectangle with width=5. Control+D to deselect.



24. Layers/convert to raster layer. Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture. Use the same settings as before. It will look like the shelf disappears. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel. Use these settings.



25. Your image should look like this:



26. Let's turn this into a tube so you can use it later. Layers/merge/visible. File/Export/Picture Tube. I used these settings:
