Lightning Tutorial
(Beginner)


1. Open a new image, 200x200, with background color set to black.

2. Set your foreground color to white and your background color to black.

3. Click on your paintbrush tool . Set your tool options to: shape=round, hardness=100, opacity=100, step=25, density=100.

4. Add a new raster layer. (On your top toolbar, click on Layers/New Raster.) Name it 'lightening'.
5. On your lightning layer, draw a few lines for a lightning strike.

6. Click on the magic wand on the left toolbar. Set your tool options to matchmode=RGB, tolerance=0, feather=5.

7. On your lightning layer, left-click on the black area. Invert the selection by clicking Selections/Invert on your top toolbar. Your image should look like this:

8. Click on the paintcan on the left toolbar. Right-click with your mouse inside the lightning selection 3 times. Your image should look something like this:

9. Now left-click 3 times inside the lightning selection. Your image should look something like this:

10. Hit Ctrl+d on your keyboard to deselect, or click on Selections/Select None on your top toolbar.
11. On your layer palette, click on the bottom layer. Delete the layer by clicking on the trash can on the palette.

12. Your image should look like this.

13. To tube your lightening, click on File/Export/Picture Tube on your top toolbar. Name your tube my lightening. It will automatically be saved in your tubes folder for future use.
